Crawly Privacy Policy
The short version
Crawly is a scoring app for RC rock-crawling competitions. It runs entirely on your phone and over your local Wi-Fi network. Nothing about you, your comp, or your phone is ever sent to LindenTech or to any other server on the internet.
What Crawly stores
Crawly keeps a small local database on your phone (using SQLite) containing only the comp data you enter and the runs you score:
- Competition name, date, and your scoring rules
- The list of drivers, classes, and courses you set up
- Each run's score, time, and result
- The name you choose for yourself when joining a comp as a judge or driver
This data lives only on your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it. There is no cloud backup, no sync to a server, no shared account.
What Crawly does NOT collect
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No advertising IDs
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, calendar, microphone, or camera access
- No personally identifying information (no email, no phone number, no name beyond what you type in)
- No crash reports sent anywhere
- No third-party SDKs that send data off the device
Network use
Crawly uses your local Wi-Fi network so phones at the same comp can talk to each other directly. One phone hosts (running a small server on the local network), and other phones at the same comp can discover and connect to it.
All network traffic stays on your local Wi-Fi. Crawly does not make calls to any internet server. If your Wi-Fi router is disconnected from the internet, Crawly still works the same way.
Permissions explained
Android:
- Local network access — required so phones can discover each other on the same Wi-Fi.
- Foreground service (host only) — keeps the comp running when the host phone's screen turns off so other phones don't disconnect mid-comp.
- Post notifications (Android 13+, host only) — required to show the "hosting" notification while the foreground service is running.
iOS:
- Local network — required so phones can discover each other on the same Wi-Fi (Bonjour / mDNS).
Children's privacy
Crawly does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children. If you're under 13 (or the equivalent age in your region) and you use Crawly, the app still does not collect or transmit any information about you.
Changes
If we ever change what Crawly stores or transmits, this policy will be updated and the effective date above will change. We won't change the "nothing leaves your phone" guarantee silently — any change to that would be called out clearly in the app's changelog.
